Hearth Calculator

The GrafTech™ Refractory System is characterized by a thin and conductive furnace hearth wall lining. The unique low permeability materials used for the wall are HotPressed™ Carbon and Semigraphite small bricks. This system allows for the high thermal conductivity bricks to be cemented to the shell without the use of a rammed joint as well as to allow for expansion and movements in the lining without cracks forming. The HotPressed™ bricks and the total wall configuration allows for a “scull” to freeze, that has proven to protect the refractory wall from deterioration and premature failure, e.g. mushroom shaped wear at the junction hearth wall/bottom pad, carbon block deterioration and cracking. This system and the materials used are the foundation for the long and trouble free campaigns recorded by GrafTech customers worldwide. In the bottom pad, large high quality carbon blocks and graphite is used. The GrafTech materials used in the Hearth Calculator are any or all of the following:

When planning a reline or a new furnace project, The Hearth Calculator will enable you to get a cost indication immediately. Speeding up the planning process and potentially reducing project cost, this web based tool allows the project engineer, the furnace operator or the purchaser to enter the actual data for the blast furnace hearth in question. This results in an instant budgetary cost indication for a GrafTech supplied hearth lining. In addition, the Hearth Calculator user can easily demonstrate how changing different parameters might impact your investment.

  • Only carbon and graphite materials (carbon blocks for the hearth bottom, NMA/NMD HotPressed™ bricks for the wall, cement and rams for the installation of this material) are included in this price indication. Leveling castables, blow-in wall protection, bottom arrestor and/or other ceramic materials are not included. No other services, such as installation or supervision, are included.
  • The price indicated includes the refractory lining from the bottom steel plate to just below the tuyere band elevation of a conventional Blast Furnace hearth.
  • The price calculated is based on current GrafTech prices with considerations made to take into account the price level at the time of delivery specified.
  • The prices calculated by the Hearth Calculator are “ex works” at the point of manufacturing, packed for shipment, according to Incoterms. Other charges are not included in the calculation.
